Our Guest Artists
The Scott/Garrison Duo is a dynamic and active chamber group located in Moscow, ID and featuring Shannon Scott, clarinet (faculty at Washington State University), and Leonard Garrison, flute (faculty at the University of Idaho). In 2013, Albany Records released their CD, Perennials, featuring music of Daniel Dorff, and in 2010 released their critically acclaimed CD, Barn Dances, featuring première recordings of nine works. Recently they have performed at conferences of the College Music Society, National Flute Association, and National Association of Wind and Percussion Instructors, at the University of Idaho and Washington State University, on the Camerata Musica series in Richland, WA, the Second Sunday Sounds @6 series in McCall, ID, and as part of the Walla Walla Symphony's Saturday Soirée Chamber Series. The Duo has collaborated with pianists Rajung Yang, Jay Mauchley, Sandy Mauchley, Jackie Woods, Jonathan Mann, Roger Price, and Catherine Venable.
The Duo began performing in recitals atNorthwestern University in 1988. They joined the Tulsa Philharmonic as full-time musicians in 1988 and 1989 respectively. As faculty members of the University of Tulsa, they performed numerous works in the university’s recital series. They have performed at six conventions of the National Flute Association and were a winner of the 2002 NFA Chamber Music Competition. As members of the Flute/Clarinet Duos Commissioning Consortium, they have commissioned works by Libby Larsen, Derek Bermel, and Valerie Coleman. They have been featured in the Brown Baggit Series at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, the "Music Sandwiched In" Series at the Tulsa Central Library, "Tuesdays at Trinity" at Tulsa's Trinity Episcopal Church, the Evenings at the Bernsen series at the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, and the Stroud Chamber Music Series. The Concertime Series in Tulsa presented the Scott/Garrison Duo in March 1998. In his review, James Watts of The Tulsa World called their program "refreshing" and the Duo "extremely talented." The Scott/Garrison Duo performed the William Heinrichs Trio for Seven Instruments, written specifically for them, at the 1998 National Flute Association Convention in Phoenix.
As part of their affiliation with the Tulsa Philharmonic in 1989-2002, the Scott/Garrison Duo introduced the flute and clarinet family to countless elementary school children and residents of many area retirement homes throughout the Tulsa area. In addition, the Scott/Garrison duo performed recitals for the Arts and Healing Program at Hillcrest Medical Center, in branch libraries, private homes, public settings such as Borders Bookstore and at the Philbrook Museum.

Aaron Goldman joined the National Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Flute in September 2006 and became Acting Principal in September, 2012. Prior to joining the NSO, he was Principal Flute of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed as guest principal with the Baltimore Symphony and has participated in the Arizona MusicFest, Central City Opera, Chautauqua Symphony, and Grant Park Music Festivals.
An active performer and chamber musician, Mr. Goldman has been featured soloist with the Virginia Chamber Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic, Woodbridge Flute Choir, Chamber Orchestra of Florida, and has been featured at National Flute Associationʼs annual conventions. He has also performed with the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, the National Chamber Players, the 21st Century Consort, and participates in many educational programs with the NSO, including performances in the Family and Terrace Theaters. He has given lectures at the Smithsonian Institution such as “The Magical Flute” and “Math and Music: Closer than you think” alongside NSO cellist Yvonne Caruthers. Additionally, he gives master classes and performances at universities and flute festivals.
Mr. Goldman is on the Board of the National Flute Association and currently serves as Vice President of the Flute Society of Washington through which he founded and conducts DCFlutes. Mr. Goldman received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he studied flute with Bonita Boyd and piccolo with Anne Harrow.
